….. as CP Giwa reassures residents of sustained fight against criminals
The Enugu State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing onslaught against violent crime, arresting five suspects for armed robbery and related offences, and recovering firearms, ammunition, and other exhibits in separate tactical operations across the state.
Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the continued safety of residents.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, operatives of the Distress Response Squad (DRS), on October 29, 2025, at about 5:45 p.m., intercepted a shuttle bus along the Enugu–Abakaliki Road and arrested one Odoh Joel, aged 25, who was found in possession of a locally made single-barrel gun cut to size. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was travelling from Awka, Anambra State.
In a separate operation on October 28, 2025, at about 10:30 p.m., operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, acting on credible intelligence, stormed New Garriki by Ukwu-Achara, Enugu, and arrested one Orugbala Tochukwu, 26, recovering a locally fabricated Beretta-like pistol loaded with one round of 9mm ammunition.

Similarly, on October 20, 2025, around 2:00 p.m., Police operatives, working with Neighbourhood Watch members, raided a criminal hideout at Amechi-Awkunanaw, Enugu, and arrested three suspects, Friday Obasi (35), Offiah Ndubuisi (39), and Onyebuchi Udenze (45), recovering six live cartridges from them.
The Police say all the suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism and dedication, CP Giwa urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of the Police, especially during the ongoing ‘Ember’ months and the forthcoming yuletide season.
