The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP. Bala Ciroma has appealed to residents of Abuja to be more security conscious as the Yuletide season approaches and provide timely information in case of emergency as the FCT Police Command emergency lines are in circulation.
The CP spoke said this on Wednesday while parading a notorious car theft syndicate, suspected Cultists, Armed Robbery , Recruitment Fraudsters and Drug Peddlers,
Ciroma said that the arrest was achieved by the diligence of the Police Detectives on stop and search operation as well as the effort of the victim who took precautionary measures including installing a tracking device on his vehicle and promptly informed the Police of the incident.
“Command has massively deployed personnel to flashpoints in and around the FCT. As a follow up to this, we have intensified vehicular and foot patrols, diligent stop and search operations, intelligence-based crime fighting strategies and constant raids on black spots especially drug spots, Ciroma said.
He reiterated that Command has continued to improve upon its community policing strategies by regularly engaging the community to provide actionable intelligence for proactive policing within the FCT.
He appealed to residents to be more security conscious and provide timely information in case of emergency as our emergency lines are in circulation and reiterated the ban on the use of fireworks within the FCT, as all violators will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
Thirty one suspects were arrested and exhibits recovered include one locally made Pump Action Rifle, Eleven Locally Fabricated Pistols, Thirty One ammunitions, Two Cutlasses, Twenty Four Phones and Laptop, Five Cars Recovered, half bag of Indian Hemp, one Plyer, several bags of uniforms and accoutrements and counterfeit appointment letters
Below is the breakdown of the arrests:
ARREST OF SUSPECTED CAR THIEVES/RECOVERY OF FIREARMS
Following a coordinated stop and search operation, on 15th November,2020, Police Detectives from Bwari Division arrested one Abbas Ibrahim 32years, John Aefa 36years, John Ofo 35years, Jerry Bulus 32years, Uzochukwu Micheal 34years, Abdulrahman Suleiman 42years and Stanley Okeke 34years all male at Sabon-Gari along Bwari axis. The notorious seven-man syndicate was arrested by eagle-eyed Police Operatives after dispossessing their victim of his vehicle at gunpoint and attempting to escape, unknown to them that the vehicle had a tracking device installed. The suspects also confessed to being responsible for car theft and several atrocities perpetrated along that axis. Exhibits recovered are: One (1) light blue unregistered Toyota Matrix, three (3) locally made pistols, four (4) live catridges, nine (9) mobile phones and six (6) ATM cards of different banks
Similarly, on 16th November,2020 acting on tip off Police Detectives from the Command’s Anti-Car Theft Unit arrested one Siraju Ibrahim ‘m’ 38years a member of a two-man gang in Zamfara for car snatching and theft. The suspect confessed that his gang specializes in monitoring their unsuspecting victims before carrying out their mission along Abuja -Kaduna axis. Concerted effort is being made to apprehend one Abdullahi ‘m’ still at large. Exhibits recovered: one (1) silver colour Toyota Matrix-ABC-584PA and one (1) ash colour Toyota Camry.
In another development,on 19th November,2020 Police Detectives Command’s Anti-Car Theft Unit arrested one Farouk Umar at Kaduna for stealing the vehicle of his employer. He stated that he intending to use the commercial purposes before he was arrested by the eagle-eyed operatives. Exhibit recovered: one (1) Toyota Prado reg no. DD117ABC
The suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigation.
ARREST OF SUSPECTED CULTISTS/RECOVERY OF FIREARMS
On 18th November,2020, during a routine raid operation, Police operatives from Trademore Division arrested one Frank Celestine 24years, Ndubuisi Okeanu 24years, Madu Franklin 22years and Obinna Okoro 22years all male at Zone 5 along Lugbe axis. The suspects confessed to being members of the Vikings confraternity and responsible for nefarious activities along that axis. Exhibits recovered are: One (1) locally made pump action rifle, two (2) locally made pistols ,one(1) locally fabricated berretta pistol, nineteen(19) live cartridges, four(4) rounds of live ammunition, five(5) mobile phones, one(1) cutlass, four(4) ATM cards and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Similarly, on 17th November,2020, acting on tip off, Police Operatives from Lugbe Division arrested one Abdulrahaman Ismail 31years and Omolade Kolade 24years for being members of the Vikings confraternity and robbing a POS operator along that axis. The suspects confessed that their gang leader one ‘mosquito’ ‘m’ currently at large spearheads all their robbery operations. Concerted effort is being made to arrest the fleeing suspect.
The suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigation.
ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS/RECOVERY OF FIREARM
On 20th November,2020, acting on intelligence, Police Operatives from Kabusa Divison arrested one Benjamin Jattau 29years, Nyor Solomon 22years, Nyor Terhide 28years and Azemda Anaana 25years in Kabusa after robbing their victim. The suspects stated that they monitored their victim carefully before storming his residence. They further confessed to burgling several houses along Kabusa axis. Exhibits recovered are: three (3) locally made pistols,two (2) rounds of live ammunition and one(1) expended cartridge.
In another development, on 26th November,2020, acting on intelligence Police Operatives from Wuye Division foiled a robbery attempt in an estate along Games Village axis. The hoodlums fled on sighting the diligent operatives approaching. Exhibit recovered: one (1) locally made pistol, one (1) round of live ammunition and one (1) plyer.
The suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigation.
ARREST OF SUSPECTED RECRUITMENT FRAUDSTERS
On 10th November,2020 acting on credible intelligence, Police operatives from Utako division arrested one John Edet 45years ‘m’ and Godslove John 36years ‘f’ along Berger axis for being linked to the floating and illegal operations of an organization name Traffic Watch and Development Initiative. The suspects stated that they are participants of the scheme as they fraudulently collect N30,000 and above from unsuspecting members of the public for recruitment form/fee into the above-mentioned organization and issuing uniforms to their victims. However, the suspected leader of the organization one Aplea John ‘m’ is currently at large, effort is in place to arrest the fleeing suspect. Exhibits recovered are: five (5) big bag containing orange and black uniforms, one (1) big bag containing ranks and badges, boots and peak caps, one (1) big bag of reflective jackets, one bundle of unused material.
In another development, on 25th November,2020 acting on tip off Police Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department and the Federal Inland Revenue Service arrested one Bernard Dogo 28years, Charles Unazi 35years, Godwin Agiangie 30years and Marcelinus Agiangie 36years at Kado Kuchi for being members of a 4-man job racketeering syndicate operating along Jahi-Kado Kuch axis. The suspects were arrested while ‘capturing’ the data of their unsuspecting victims for “FIRS recruitment”. They stated further that the mastermind of the fraudulent exercise is one Clement Agiangie aka Don Clem who is currently at large. Concerted effort is being made to arrest the suspect. Exhibit+s recovered: one (1) dell mini laptop, four (4) mobile phones, one (1) Toyota RAV4 and forms containing the data their victims.
Relatedly, on 26th November,2020 acting on intelligence Police Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department arrested one John Okoh ‘m’ 30years at Bwari for defrauding unsuspecting members of the public. The suspect stated that he and one Kanadi Dauda ‘m’ fraudulently obtained money from their victims under the guises of providing them with employment. Effort is being made to apprehend the fleeing suspect. Exhibits recovered: seventeen (17) counterfeit appointment letters.
The suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigation.
ARREST OF SUSPECTED DRUG PEDDLERS
On 25th November,2020, during a routine raid, Police Operatives from the Command’s Anti-Narcotics Unit arrested one Auwal Umar ‘m’ 18years, Abbas Adamu 18years and Yusuf Musa 20years at Jungle area of Kabusa. The suspects confessed to being dealers of dried leaves suspected to Indian hemp. Exhibits recovered: ½ sac of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigation.
ARREST OF SUSPECTED ONE CHANCE ROBBERS
On 28th November,2020, acting on intelligence Police Operatives from Galadinmawa Division rescued from an angry mob and arrested one Abubakar Musa ‘m’ 27years and Monday Okah ‘m’ 23years for attempting to rob their victim inside their vehicle at Galadinmawa round-about. The unfortunate suspects were trailed and almost lynched by a mob who burnt their vehicle beyond recognition after their victim raised an alarm, however, the suspects narrowly escaped death due to the professionalism exhibited by the Police Operatives. Exhibits recovered: one (1) dagger, three (3) mobile phones.
Similarly, on 1st December,2020 acting on intelligence Police Detectives from the Command’s State Intelligence Bureau arrested one Ekpe Ekanem ‘m’ 31years at Berger Round-about while attempting to rob their unsuspecting victim. The suspect stated that he and one Victor ‘m’ currently at large defraud their victims by asking them to describe a particular location before perpetrating their evil act.
