As waves of defections continue to rock Gombe PDP from left right and center, the party has been undoubtedly thrown into the pool of uncertainty and pandemonium. The Kaltungo Mass Defections, which involves both the leadership and followership of the party and the subsequent defections from nooks and crannies of the state from the PDP to the ruling APC is a clear pointer to PDP’s imminent downfall.
Just as predicted by analysts, the PDP’s Primaries which saw the emergence of Ɗan Barde as gubernatorial flagbearer have successfully thrown the party into the wilderness of unending uncertainties which sent members into disarray – Dr. Jamilu Gwamna’s camp refused to pay allegiance to the Dan Barde’s team just as predicted.
Ɗan Barde’s unsuccessful attempts to carry Jamilu Gwamna’s camp along and the seemingly recent decision to forsake them have taken the situation from bad to worse. As Dr. Jamilu continues to maintain silence, the supporters of Ɗan Barde are accusing him of showing indifference towards the activities of the party.
Furthermore, the inability of Ɗan Barde to assume the leadership of the party is also a factor that undermines his effort to demonstrate his full political might; being just a subordinate and answerable to ‘the party leader’ has rendered him nothing but a toothless dog.
The general election is beyond simple manipulation of delegates or having the backing of ‘the owners of the party, the task is tougher and bigger and it has no shortcuts.
Without resolving these eminent problems, PDP in Gombe State and its Gubernatorial candidate can be likened to a broken ship that could not save itself from sinking talk less of sailing to the shores.
