….Recovers twenty-three illegal firearms

The Bauchi Police command has received additional logistics, heightening water-tight security to actualize the serenity of the forthcoming gubernatorial and state assembly election, as the mopping-up of illicit firearms continues.

A statement from the Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said that the logistics received were sequel to the commitments of the inspector general of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba in ensuring effective election security management during the forthcoming gubernatorial and state assembly election.

According to him, the approved logistics include; Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), 37/38mm anti-riot guns, long and short-range shells, as well as two pick-up vehicles.

In the same vein, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aminu Alhassan has directed all Area Commanders DPO and Tactical Commanders in the state to sustain an aggressive stance on cannon-fodders under whatever guise, who may be employed to obstruct the smooth and peaceful process of the 2023 general election in Bauchi State.

The statement read, “Furthermore, the command in its unrelenting efforts continues to mop up illicit arms in the state.

“This is following the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba to curb the proliferation of small and light weapons in the state.

“Consequently, the Command has conducted several daring operations and mop-up of firearms across the state, which resulted in significant achievements of the following;

“Recovery of twenty-three (23) illegal firearms from the hands of miscreants. These include;

Nine (9) AK47 rifles
seven (7) assorted locally-made firearms
one (1) Light Assault Rifle (LAR)
Six (6) Dane guns.

“Alongside eighteen (18) rifle magazines
Also, a total of eighty-seven (87) rounds of live ammunition of different calibres were equally recovered. Of which were;

“Twenty-two (22) rounds of live 7×62.51mm NATO ammunitions
Nine (58) rounds of live 7×62.39mm ammunition
Seven (7) 9mm live ammunition.
Four (4) machetes
One (1) knife
Three (3) military camouflages were equally recovered.

“However, it is worthy to note that the milestone recorded by the command would be attributed to the strategic review of the command’s mode of operations through robust partnership with other sister security agencies and through community partnership, which is known as community policing scheme.

In conclusion, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aminu Alhassan unequivocally assured the good people of the Bauchi state of adequate security during and after the 2023 Gubernatorial and state assembly election.
