Gov Diri Charges Super Falcons To Win 10th WAFCON Title

Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri has charged the nine-time African champions, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, to return home with the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations trophy.

The Super Falcons on Tuesday in Casablanca marshalled a 2-1 win over the Banyana Banyana of South Africa to zoom into their 10th final in the women’s continental spectacle.

Governor Diri gave the charge on Thursday at the Weekly “Prosperity Walk” at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, ahead of the final this weekend in Morocco.

He commended the girls for the show of determination from the group stage to the final of the showpiece, stating that their triumph in the semifinals against the defending champions, South Africa, is a reflection of the spirit of true champions.

According to him, the government of Bayelsa is solidly behind the girls to see them return with the trophy, urging the girls to remain focused as they chase a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

The governor praised the team’s commitment and tenacity, having gone past Zambia and South Africa, pointing out that the victories have restored the hopes of many Nigerians on the team, describing the final as Mission “X.”

“I would like to use this opportunity to wish our own girls who are doing well in Morocco, having gone through the group stages to the knockout stage down to the semi-finals, and now they are in the final.

“So on behalf of our state and the government of Bayelsa, I hereby wish our girls in Morocco to return with the trophy, they have done it again and again; they have done it for nine times, and the media has tagged it Mission X, the people of Bayelsa and the Government of Bayelsa are wishing them well,” Governor Diri stated.
