Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has visited Senator representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, Moses Cleopas and his family over the demise of their mother, Mrs. Dorcas Cleopas.
Speaking during a condolence visit to the Yenagoa residence of Senator Cleopas on Thursday, Governor Diri expressed sadness over the death of the octogenarian.
He said the departed mother of the Cleopas family left good legacies and would be fondly missed.
The governor noted that having lost his mother too, he understood their pain and prayed God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
He assured the family that the state government will stand by them in their moment of grief, especially during the burial.
He said: “We came to mourn with our brother over the death of his mum, who impacted positively on their lives. As I always say, nobody is too young or too old to die. Everyone of us has an appointed day to die.
“I have been in it and I know how I felt when I lost my mother. So we sympathise with you and pray that God grants you the fortitude to bear the loss.
“To the entire Koluama community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area and the state at large, it is a huge loss to us. This is the time mama was needed to guide and pray for us. But we are only humans and cannot question God.
“As a government we will stand by you and your family. She added value to Koluama, her local government and the state. And you and your siblings are living testimonies of who your mother was.”
Responding, Senator Moses Cleopas expressed the appreciation of the entire family to the governor for the visit, saying it strengthened them.
The federal lawmaker lauded the governor’s leadership style, which he said has united the state, stressing that virtually all political leaders in the state irrespective of party affiliation have showed love to the Cleopas family since his mother’s demise.
The governor was accompanied on the visit by his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, some members of the state House of Assembly, the Secretary to the State Government, Konbowei Benson, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Chief Benson Agadaga, commissioners and other top government functionaries.
