…as IGP orders for discreet investigation.
The Emir of Kazaure in Jigawa State, Najib Hussaini Adamu, and his palace-armed men physically and verbally assaulted police personnel lawfully sent to arrest him while a police officer was seriously injured inside the palace and rushed to the hospital to save his life.
The whole crisis started when one Muhammed Mainasara Sai’du married Hafsat Najib Adamu (the daughter of Sariki Kazaure), and the marriage was blessed with a child named Najib Mainasara Sai’du.
Unfortunately, the marriage came to an end in 2021, after the dissolution of the marriage by divorce. Muhammed Mainasara Sai’du did not claim to be entitled to the custody of the child of the marriage, having known that it was the mother who had custody until the child attained puberty as provided for by Sharia law.
However, Hafsat, the daughter of Sarkin Kazaure, took Muhammed Mainasara Sai’du to Upper Area Court Gudu, FCT, wherein the court gave her right of custody against Muhammed Mainasara Sai’du pending when the child could attain puberty, at which time she would lose the custodial right. The judgement was affirmed by the Sharia Court of Appeal of the FCT.
That is in line with the judgement of the court. When Muhammed Mainasara Sai’du noticed that the child should have attained puberty, he went back to the same Upper Area Court and gave Hafsat custody to determine whether the child had reached puberty.
The same judge that gave her custody ordered a medical examination of the child, which was done at the National Hospital, Abuja, and the result came out positive. Therefore, the Court terminated her right to custody on the 15th of April, 2024, as provided for by Islamic law.
The judgement has never been appealed against by Hafsat, and she has never respected that valid and subsisting judgement of a competent court of law.
Unfortunately, while the child was in Muhammed Mainasara Sai’du’s house preparing for his tertiary education abroad, Hafsat colluded with some men and escaped with the child. For over five months now, Muhammad Mainasara Sai’du has not seen his son. Consequently, he cannot send him to a tertiary institution to further his education.
Concerned about the future and education of his child, Muhammed Mainasara Sai’du went back to the same court and informed the court that after terminating the custody right of Hafsat, she took the child away from his custody and could not send the child to school to further his education.
The Court invited her, and she told the Court that she took the child, and he was with Sarkin Kazaure! There and then, the court ordered her to produce the child within 24 hours or face the wrath of the law.
One Aminu Maigida from the palace of Sarkin Kazaure came to the court and wrote an undertaking to produce the child as ordered by the court within 24 hours.
In utter disrespect to the court, Aminu Maigida has not produced the child as he undertook to, and he has never gone back to the court to explain to the court why he has failed to produce the child.
From the foregoing, Muhammed Mainasara Sai’du was left with the only option of applying to the court to arrest the said Aminu Maigaida and to direct the police to pick up Muhammed Mainasara Sai’du’s son and hand over to Muhammed Mainasara Sai’du, who will in turn take the child to school.
On the 14th of October 2024, the court ordered that the Inspector General of Police or any of his men and officers and the enforcement officers of the court shall pick up Muhammed Mainasara Sai’du’s child wherever he is found and hand him over to Muhammed Mainasara Sai’du to enable him to discharge his responsibility as a father.
Despite the court orders and the involvement of police both at headquarters and the state to get Muhammed Mainasara Sai’du’s child back to him. Sarkin Kazaure vowed never to respect any court of law or court order.
Towards the end of November 2024, the police and the court sheriffs made another attempt to enforce the court order; unfortunately, their attempt was met with stronger resistance from Sarkin Kazaure.
As it is now, Muhammed Mainasara Sai’du has requested the Inspector General of Police or any of his men and officers to help get his son back and prosecute the Sarkin Kazaure for physically and verbally assaulting police personnel sent on lawful assignment to his palace.
Efforts by our reporter to reach the Emir of Kazaure in Jigawa State, Najib Hussaini Adamu, proved abortive as his phone line was switched off
Reacting to the assault, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said that the matter is being investigated.
“We will not take it lightly for anyone to beat up or assault our personnel. The IGP has ordered that a different team should take over the case for a discreet investigation.
“Anyone involved in the assault on the policemen will be caused to face the full wrath of the law because Nigeria is not a lawless country, Adejobi said.
