I Am Too Busy For Careless Talk, IGP Egbetokun Responds to Adeleke, PDP, Says I Won’t React To Such Absurdity

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Thursday, said that he will not respond to the allegations by the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party of planning to assassinate the governor of the state, Ademola Adeleke.

Responding to questions from journalists at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, Egbetokun said he won’t react to such absurdity.

“I read about the allegation, but I refused to dignify such absurdity with a response. I believe in challenging the distortion of fact. We will not allow distortion of fact against us to go unchallenged.

“But statements that are clearly contrary to reasoning don’t deserve our response. I am too busy for careless talk. I will not respond to such absurdity.

He added that when violence erupted in the state, he answered the Osun State Commissioner of Police’s call for reinforcement, pointing out that the NPF had strengthened the Command and that there were enough men on the ground to guarantee that law and order was maintained there and that Osun State law and order would not collapse again.

To maintain the rule of law in Osun State, IGP Egbetokun asks the people to maintain their calm and carry on with their daily activities. According to him, the state is at peace and there is no longer any violence there.

Swift Reporters had reported on Monday that the crisis stemmed from attempts by sacked local government chairmen and councillors of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, to regain control of council secretariats.

In the aftermath of the violence, six persons were confirmed dead by the Osun State Police Command.

Among the dead were Remi Abass, the ousted chairman of Irewole Local Government Area, who was killed in Ikire town.
