Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi stated that he had 40% of women in his cabinet in Anambra because he discovered that women were far more committed and trustworthy.
Obi told the Voice of Women Conference on Tuesday at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja that when we need work done well, we should hire a woman.
He said that the VOW2022 Conference and Awards indeed is timely for an agenda to be set towards having an inclusive and accountable Nigeria, from 2023.
“This country cannot make sustainable progress if we continue to leave 50% of the population, which are women behind.
“As Presidential Candidates speak to Nigerian Women from across the country at this event, it is good for the women to listen to what we have to say and then look at what we did before now – our respective antecedents – when we had the opportunity to bring them to the leadership table.
“Women need to vote right, looking at antecedents on inclusivity agenda. Beyond that, they must vote for candidates they can trust on the scales of capacity, competence, character, and proven commitment to the yearnings of Nigerian women.
“Do not accept us based on what will tell you we will do: have we proven it before now? I had 40% of women in my cabinet in Anambra because I found out that women were far more committed and trustworthy. When you need to have work done and done satisfactorily, get a woman to do it and you will not be disappointed.
“I am committed to making sure that I will carry women along; bring them to the leadership table where decisions are being made, and also allow them to utilize their potential for the betterment of Nigeria.
The 6th edition of the annual Voice of Women Conference & Awards (VOW2022) was another opportunity to set a gender agenda given the 2023 election year.
Presidential candidates were allotted equal time to present their 2023 and beyond plans and commitments to integrate Women into the National Agenda.
Over 500 Nigerian women groups across the six geo-political zones attended the physical conference and virtually.
