…. As IGP Hosts Nigerian Shippers Council

The Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to ensuring sufficient security to support commercial activity in Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy sector has been reiterated by Inspector-General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun.

According to a press release on Tuesday, 3rd June 2025, signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP made this known when he played host to the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Dr. Akutah Pius Ukeyima and his delegation at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

In his address, Dr. Akutah expressed his appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for the warm reception and commended the longstanding relationship between the Nigerian Shippers’ Council and the Nigeria Police Force. He emphasised the crucial role the Force plays in supporting the Council’s regulatory and enforcement operations, including the effective implementation of the Nigerian Port Manual. Dr. Akutah further noted that this partnership has significantly enhanced transparency and operational efficiency, particularly along the port corridors. He therefore sought continued collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force in enforcing compliance, bolstering surveillance efforts, and supporting the Council’s monitoring teams across the country.

In his response, the Inspector-General of Police appreciated the visit and acknowledged the important role the Nigerian Shippers’ Council plays in driving national economic growth. He reassured the delegation of the continued support of the Nigeria Police Force in sustaining and deepening the collaboration, particularly in maintaining security within port environments and ensuring smooth enforcement operations. The IGP affirmed the readiness of the Force to work more closely with the Council’s Joint Task Teams to achieve both organisations’ shared and distinct mandates in service of national development.

The visit also had in attendance the Force Management Team and other senior officers.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police has reiterated its commitment to fostering impactful partnerships with critical stakeholders in both the public and private sectors.

“Through sustained collaboration with agencies such as the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, the Force continues to strengthen national security architecture, enhance institutional efficiency, and promote initiatives that align with its mission of ensuring public safety and national progress, the statement concluded
