IGP Egbetokun Didn’t Sack Seven DIGs Over Retirement Controversy, Says Youth Alliance

The Integrity Youth Alliance, an organisation that has been monitoring the development trends in the Nigerian Police Force for over 15 years, has corrected the misleading publication by Ireporteronline News titled “GP Egbetokun Cracks Down On Senior Officers—Seven DIGs Sacked Over Retirement Controversy.”

Reacting to the publication, the National Coordinator of the Alliance, Kelvin Adegbenga, said that IGP Egbetokun doesn’t have the power to sack DIGs; that power lies with the Police Service Commission.

“The seven Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) have reached their retirement by age and service years in the Nigeria Police Force; they were not cracked down on as falsely reported by mischievous Ireporteronline news, Adegbenga said.

“DIG Dasuki Galandachi of the former Force Investigation Department doesn’t have the power to see a service extension, as made believe by the news medium. The Police Act under Section 7(6) and Section 8(1) only gave the Inspector General of Police a tenure of 4 years, irrespective of age or service years.

“No tensions are growing within the Nigeria Police Force, as mischievously reported by Ireporteronline news, as no officers resisted retirement.

All those who retired on 3rd March 2025 have reached their retirement age and service years in the Force; no officer was cracked down on to retire. We urged Nigerians to fact-check most of the chunks published by mischievous online mediums, the statement concluded.
