IGP Egbetokun Launches Investigation Into Viral Video Allegations

…to address concerns and reinforce the commitment to Welfare

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the allegations presented in a viral video by a retired Superintendent of Police regarding the welfare and retirement benefits of police pensioners.

According to a press release on Thursday, 26th June,2025, signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP has instructed NPF Pensions Limited to promptly assess the claims, identify any potential shortcomings, and take appropriate action to address the issues raised.

“The Nigeria Police Force is fully aware of the challenges faced by its pensioners, many of whom devoted their lives to ensuring the safety and security of our nation.

“The IGP prioritises the welfare of both active and retired officers, understanding that timely and effective pension administration is essential for maintaining morale and the integrity of the institution. While efforts have been made to enhance the pension system, the IGP recognises the significance of constructive feedback in facilitating necessary improvements.

“In light of this, the IGP assures all officers—both current and retired—and their families of the Force’s unwavering commitment to enhancing welfare and creating a system that respects their sacrifices.

He encourages stakeholders to remain calm and patient as NPF Pensions conducts its investigations and collaborates with relevant agencies to establish lasting solutions.
