IGP Egbetokun Mourns Late Retired AIG Liman Shettima, Prays For Repose Of His Soul

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Liman Shettima, OFR, NPM, mni, who died on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at his residence in Jos, Plateau State.

In an official statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP, on behalf of the entire officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and former colleagues.

AIG Shettima, a highly respected and dedicated officer, retired from the Nigeria Police Force on June 4, 1999, after a distinguished career that spanned decades. He notably served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar; Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command; and as CP Admin at the Police Academy (Polac).

The IGP described the late AIG as a man of integrity and professionalism, whose contributions to national security and policing excellence were widely acknowledged. He noted that Shettima’s legacy of service, leadership, and nation-building would continue to inspire future generations of police officers.

“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus,” the IGP prayed, while also urging comfort for the bereaved family during this painful period.

The Nigeria Police Force joins the nation in mourning the loss of a venerable officer whose life was devoted to service and peace.
