The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has assured the people of Anambra State of the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a peaceful, credible, and secure governorship election in the state.
Speaking during the Pre-Election Stakeholders’ Engagement held in Awka on Saturday, 2 November 2025, the IGP, represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Department and DIG Election for the Anambra poll, DIG Benjamin Okolo, emphasised that the Police have no political interest in the exercise, stressing their neutrality and dedication to democratic values.
According to him, the off-cycle election presents another opportunity for the Force to showcase its evolution into a modern, intelligence-driven and community-focused policing institution.
“We have no candidate in this election; our allegiance is to the Constitution, the people, and the peace of Nigeria,” he said.
“The Police will be neutral but not negligent, fair but not fragile, civil but never cowardly.”

He said the security architecture for the election is robust, noting that polling units and flashpoints across the state have been mapped, while personnel have been adequately briefed and deployments strengthened in collaboration with other security agencies.
The IGP warned individuals planning to disrupt the electoral process through violence, inducement, or intimidation to desist or face the full weight of the law, adding that security operations would be both strategic and firm.
He urged political actors to exercise restraint, stating that leadership attained through violence lacks legitimacy. Traditional, religious, and community leaders were also called upon to guide the populace toward peace and order.
The Police Chief assured voters of maximum security and encouraged them to exercise their franchise without fear.
“Go out and vote. Vote your conscience. The Police stand as your shield, not your shadow,” he said, promising a peaceful and credible poll.
The IGP expressed confidence that Anambra State will set a positive example in democratic conduct, reaffirming the Force’s determination to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
