IGP Kayode Egbetokun’s Visionary Leadership In Strengthening Police Healthcare

By Adewole Kehinde

The recent appointment of AIG Nkechi Eze, BDS, MPH, fspsp, as the Pioneer Director of the newly established Directorate of Force Medical Services by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, deserves high commendation. This strategic move underscores the IGP’s unwavering commitment to ongoing police reforms and the improved welfare of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.

By elevating the Force Medical Section to a full-fledged Directorate, IGP Egbetokun has taken a decisive step toward institutionalizing comprehensive, accessible, and efficient healthcare services for police personnel across the country.

This bold reform not only aligns with global standards of policing but also reflects a deep understanding that the well-being of officers is inseparable from the operational effectiveness and morale of the Force.

AIG Nkechi Eze’s appointment is both historic and visionary. As a seasoned medical professional and a highly respected officer, she brings to the table an impressive blend of clinical expertise, administrative acumen, and leadership experience. The task before her is monumental, to build the Directorate into a model of excellence in police healthcare management.

There is no doubt that under her stewardship, the Directorate can set new benchmarks in medical service delivery, preventive care, and occupational health for police personnel and their families.

The establishment of the Directorate of Force Medical Services represents a strategic investment in the health, morale, and productivity of police officers. By prioritizing healthcare, the IGP has reaffirmed that the men and women who dedicate their lives to maintaining law and order deserve the best in medical support and welfare.

This initiative will not only improve officers’ quality of life but also enhance their efficiency, readiness, and confidence in the institution they serve.

IGP Kayode Egbetokun’s reforms continue to redefine modern policing in Nigeria—anchored on professionalism, welfare, and institutional capacity-building. His forward-looking leadership offers a clear message: that a motivated and healthy police force is essential for national peace and security.

As the Directorate begins its journey under AIG Nkechi Eze’s capable leadership, it is my hope that this visionary step will herald a new era of excellence in police healthcare, further strengthening the foundation for a more humane, efficient, and motivated Nigeria Police Force.
