The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Arch. Bishop Ignatius Kaigama has said that insecurity remains a threat to survival of the Nigerian education sector, especially private universities.
Kaigama said this while speaking at the 10th convocation ceremony of Veritas University on Saturday in Bwari, Abuja
According to Kaigama, “The attacks by bandits and other criminal elements on the education sector do not only affect the safety of students and staff in schools but also directly or indirectly affect the survival of private universities.”
The Bishop further called on the government to take drastic measures to improve security in university campuses to secure the lives of students.
“I therefore, wish to use this medium to call on the government to take drastic steps to improve on the security and safety of lives and properties in and around university campuses across Nigeria”

The Vice Chancellor, Fr. Prof. Hycinth Ichoku said the University graduated 331 students from its previous academic session, out of which 30 made First Class Honours.
He added that the Students, including 60 Post-graduates, had completed their studies and had been certified by the school for the ceremony.
“The number of graduating students from both undergraduate and Post- graduate classes are about 331 of which 60, out the number are from the postgraduate class.
“Out of all these numbers, we have 30 students graduating with First Class Honours, 151 in Second Class Upper, 130 in Second Class Lower and 50 made Third class.”
He said that the school worked very hard to make sure it’s students put in their best academically, intellectually and morally.
The vice chancellor, while appreciating the efforts put by staff and the Convocation Committee “to ensure a DC a number of projects would also be commissioned on same day.
These projects, he mentioned included a new male hostel, a female hostel and a clinic.
He noted that the school had made significant progress in the past year, while adding that it has not relented in its effort to meet the needs of prospective students.
The Guest Speaker at the Convocation, Kola Adeshina tasked the graduates on mind shift to the use of technology to enhance their future
