Integrity Youth Alliance Dismisses Adeolu Oyinlola’s Allegations Against Fakorede, IGP Monitoring Unit, As Baseless

The Integrity Youth Alliance has refuted claims made by Mr Adeolu Oyinlola in a Sahara Reporters publication titled “Lagos Businessman Petitions Inspector-General Egbetokun After Fakorede, IGP Monitoring Unit Compromised, Secretly Released Case Files To Ex-Governor Oyinlola.”

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Danjuma Lamido, the group described the allegations against CP Akin Fakorede and the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit as unfounded, malicious, and intended to mislead the public concerning established police procedures.

According to the IYA, it is standard investigative practice for a suspect to be given a copy of any petition written against them, enabling them to understand the allegations and prepare their defence.

The group added that this is a constitutional requirement supported by the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), which guarantees the right of suspects to be informed of allegations and to access their own statements.

The Alliance stressed that CP Fakorede did not compromise any investigation nor release confidential documents to former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, contrary to the claims made by Adeolu Oyinlola.

It further noted that the petitioner never applied for certified true copies of his own statements, making his claims of secret releases misleading.

The group also clarified that certified documents from police investigations are issued only through the Legal Directorate of the Nigeria Police Force, not through the IGP Monitoring Unit, describing the allegation of unauthorised document release as “pure blackmail”.

Reaffirming its confidence in CP Fakorede’s professional integrity, the IYA urged the public to disregard the allegations, assuring that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to due process, transparency, and professionalism.
