Integrity Youth Alliance Refutes Sahara Reporters’ Allegation On Police Promotions

The Integrity Youth Alliance has dismissed a report by Sahara Reporters alleging favouritism in recent promotions within the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Danjuma Lamido, the group described the publication, titled “Favouritism Deepens In Egbetokun-Led Nigerian Police As Officers With Two Years Of Service Get Double Promotion,” as misleading and unsupported by facts.

The organisation insisted that there have been no records of widespread favouritism or injustice in police promotions since IGP Egbetokun assumed office.

It noted that promotions under the current police leadership follow transparent institutional processes based on merit, performance, experience, and discipline.

“The claims of corruption and nepotism are false, malicious, and deliberately aimed at misleading the public,” the group stated, adding that the IGP had only recently reaffirmed the merit-driven nature of promotions within the force.

The Integrity Youth Alliance urged Sahara Reporters to uphold ethical journalism by verifying information before publication to avoid undermining public trust in national institutions.

The statement concluded with a call for responsible reporting and reiterated the group’s confidence in the IGP’s commitment to fairness and professionalism in police personnel management.
