The police have asked Nigerians to disregard the old news titled “Dismissed policeman, Fulani impersonator, 7 others arrested as police bust notorious kidnap syndicate in Ekiti,” which has been circulated by some peddlers and originators of fake news or content.
According to the Force Public Relations Office, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, it is a criminal offence to peddle fake news or content.
“This is misleading and should not be encouraged in any way, Adejobi said.
A fact check by Swift Reporters indicated that the news the peddlers are circulating was published on November 24, 2021.
