ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, said he observed several officers extorting money from unsuspecting Nigerians on the Lagos-Ibadan highway on Sunday.
Adejobi expressed concern for the continued corruption being practiced by certain police officers and stated that the officers are to be sent to Abuja for disciplinary action by their Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
He described the extortion of Nigerians by police as a form of oppression and stated that senior police officers, regardless of their jurisdiction, have been instructed by the Inspector General of Police to confront any police officer found to be misbehaving.
Adejobi said this on Monday night on X, formerly Twitter, “I personally caught some policemen yesterday while driving along Lagos/Ibadan Expressway. The DPO has been asked to bring them to Abuja.
“Then we know what to do. It’s disheartening to see some of our men extorting Nigerians. Personally, I feel sad, and I don’t like it because it’s a sort of oppression.
“The IGP has made it clear that supervisory officers would henceforth be held responsible. The IGP has also directed senior officers to rebuke and confront any of our men who misbehave irrespective of his jurisdiction.
