Dutse, Jigawa State, set the stage for the official launch, education, and sensitisation workshop of the Jigawa Skaters Club, as patrons, sponsors, and club members gathered to witness the making of a community of young people passionate about skating.
The move to officially launch the club, as part of the broader objective of establishing proper administrative, management, and empowerment structures, was led by Dayo Abiola Consulting Ltd., Nigeria’s foremost logo design company, ably represented by Mr. Dayo Abiola, Creative Director, and Mr. Sanni Hujjatullah, Corporate Strategy Specialist, alongside Mr. Ahmed Maigeri, CEO of MTown Hotel, and Mr. Thomas Ukubile, Managing Director of Komplete Konsult and former Fidelity Bank Operations Manager, all patrons of the club. Seated at the high table with the business leaders was the coach, Mr. Naziru Adamu, and the Secretary General, Mr. Ibrahim Usman.
Information gathered indicates the club previously existed as a group of individuals, mostly from the grassroots, who came together to pursue their shared passion.
However, a chance meeting between the club’s coach, Mr. Naziru Adamu, and Mr. Dayo Abiola, the creative director of Dayo Abiola Consulting Ltd., led to discussions about bringing the club’s passion into the spotlight. Mr. Abiola challenged them to organise themselves to attract support and empowerment from respected community members.
At the event, Mr. Dayo Abiola unveiled the club logo and its design justification statement, generously provided by his agency. During his speech to the club members, part of the workshop, he emphasised the importance of promoting a healthy lifestyle, responsible behaviour, and community engagement.
Mr. Thomas Ukubile delivered a poignant speech, providing nuggets of information to educate the members on how to be good ambassadors of their community. He urged them to avoid crime and drugs. He highlighted the consequences of such actions, not only for the individuals involved but also for the club’s reputation. He also spoke about the crucial need for safety and discipline, given the sport’s inherent risk of injury if rules and coaches’ instructions are not followed.
Mr. Ahmed Maigeri, CEO of MTown Hotel, added enthusiasm to the occasion, assuring the club members that with a proper structure in place, he would leverage his network to support the club and secure sponsors. He added that, beyond his own support, a proper structure would make it easier to convince other influential members of society to support the club.
As the event drew to a close, Mr. Dayo Abiola, on behalf of his agency, made a generous donation of ₦100,000 to the club. Also, in another generous move, one of the senior members of the club, Mr. Ibrahim Mohammed Dutse, a business manager, supported the club with N20,000. Mr. Sanni Hujjatullah then announced that the club’s constitution, which his agency is assisting in framing, was being reviewed by Saminu Sunusi Associates, a legal chamber that volunteered to review it before its formal handover to the executive members.
Earlier in the week, Mr. Hashim H. Hashim, Special Adviser to the Governor of Jigawa State on ICT II and a club patron, visited the skaters at the invitation of Mr. Dayo Abiola.
Mr. Hashim encouraged them and commended their resilience, steadfastness, and passion, speaking directly to the coach.
