Kwara Police Command Marks 70 Years Of Women In Policing With Walkathon, Mental Health Campaign

The Kwara State Police Command on Friday, 28 November 2025, joined nationwide activities marking 70 Years of Women in Policing with a 5km walkathon against gender-based violence and a mental health awareness programme for female officers.

The week-long commemoration kicked off with a fitness walk by women police personnel aimed at promoting unity, physical wellbeing, and emotional resilience. The day’s activities later moved to the Police Officers’ Mess, GRA, Ilorin, where the Women Police Coordinator, CSP Agene Funmi—represented by CSP Sherifat Akorede—delivered a welcome address stressing the importance of wellness and personal health in effective policing.

Representing the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, psc, mnips, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), ACP Afolabi Kazeem, commended the pivotal role women officers continue to play in the Command. A keynote lecture on mental health and resilience was presented by ACP (Dr.) Balogun Abdulquadri, who highlighted the unique challenges faced by female officers and recommended practical steps to enhance their wellbeing.

The event also featured goodwill messages, an interactive session, and group photographs. The Command reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare, mental health, and professional development of all women police officers.

The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command.
