Labour Party Accuses INEC’s Acting Chair Of Colluding With Julius Abure Over Fake Court Order

….. Demands her immediate arrest and prosecution

The Labour Party (LP) has accused the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, of criminal collusion with the former National Chairman of the party, Mr. Julius Abure, over what it described as a “fabricated and non-existent” court order purportedly recognising Abure as the party’s leader.

In a statement issued on Thursday, October 23, 2025, and signed by Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the Interim National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, the party alleged that Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu had “dragged INEC into a web of political criminal conspiracy” by citing a fake order from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Gwagwalada.

The statement recalled that on October 14, 2025, the INEC Acting Chair convened a meeting with leaders of all 18 registered political parties, during which Mr. Abure was reportedly invited. The following day, she allegedly justified her decision by referencing an order purportedly issued by Justice Kayode Agunloye of the FCT High Court, directing INEC to recognise Abure as the Labour Party’s National Chairman.

However, according to the party, a formal inquiry at the said court confirmed that no such order was granted in the referenced suit (No: CV/1914/2025). The party therefore challenged Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu to produce the alleged order, insisting that her reliance on a forged document amounted to “fraud and partisanship.”

The statement further noted that even if such an order existed, it would still be invalid in light of the Supreme Court judgment of April 4, 2025, which upheld Senator Nenadi Usman as the legitimate leader of the Labour Party.

“The actions of Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu represent a new low in INEC’s history and expose her as a danger to Nigeria’s democracy,” the statement read. “We call for her immediate arrest and prosecution for complicity in the criminal forgery of a court order.”

The Labour Party also directed its members and supporters nationwide to commence a peaceful occupation of INEC headquarters until the Acting Chair is arrested and the Commission fully complies with the Supreme Court’s ruling.

The party further urged the incoming substantive INEC Chairman to address the alleged injustice and “purge the Commission of elements of destabilisation led by Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu and her collaborators.”
