Labour Party Secures Court Order Halting Abure-Led Congresses

The Labour Party has announced that the High Court of Abia State sitting in Isiala Ngwa has issued an interim order stopping Barr. Julius Abure and his faction from conducting what the party describes as “illegal” ward, local government, and state congresses.

In a statement issued by the Interim National Publicity Secretary, Ife Salako, the party said the court order was granted on 26 November 2025 in Suit No. HIN/47/2025, filed by Hon. (Sir) Emmanuel Nwaeze Otti. The ruling restrains Abure and members of his National Working Committee from proceeding with their planned congresses.

The party urged supporters nationwide to disregard any congresses promoted by Abure’s group, noting that such activities have been declared null and void by a competent court. It assured members that the official timetable for legitimate Labour Party congresses will be announced soon.

The statement also called on the Inspector-General of Police, listed as the 6th Defendant/Respondent in the suit, to arrest and prosecute individuals organising or taking part in any unauthorised congresses reportedly scheduled for 2nd, 4th, or 6th December, or on any other date.

Additionally, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the 7th Defendant/Respondent, was urged to distance itself from activities not sanctioned by the leadership of the party under Senator Nenadi Usman. The Labour Party said it will duly notify INEC of its authentic programmes once its congress and convention schedule is finalised.
