Lagos Police Smash Notorious Car Snatching And Armed Robbery Gang

The Lagos State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its fight against violent crime with the arrest of a notorious car-snatching and armed robbery syndicate terrorising Lagos and neighbouring states.

Between October 15 and 17, 2025, tactical squads of the Command, acting on credible intelligence, launched a series of coordinated operations that led to the arrest of four suspected armed robbers at their hideout in Igando, Lagos.

The suspects, identified as Taiwo Alabi (42), Ogedengbe Lowis (46), Ighodalo Enato Francis (37), and Osaro Eghe Abiodun (34), were apprehended after weeks of surveillance and inter-state tracking involving Edo, Ogun, Oyo, and Lagos States.

During the operation, police operatives recovered the following exhibits:

* One semi-automatic pump-action rifle (Breech No: 000565)
* One locally fabricated Beretta pistol
* 48 rounds of 9mm ammunition
* 46 live cartridges
* One cutlass and several criminal charms
* One Toyota Sienna
* Two Lexus ES350 cars
* One Toyota Corolla

Preliminary investigation revealed that the gang specialised in robbing unsuspecting motorists by posing as passengers before attacking and dispossessing them of their vehicles. Some of the stolen cars were traced to Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, and Edo States.

According to the Police Command, the suspects have confessed to multiple armed robbery and car snatching operations across these states. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang still at large.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Jimoh Moshood, commended the tactical teams for their professionalism and assured residents that the Command remains relentless in its pursuit of criminals threatening peace and safety in the state.
