The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the gruesome murder of retired Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, whose lifeless body was discovered on November 24, 2025, in her Asaba residence.
According to a press release signed by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division, Asaba, received a complaint from the deceased’s brother, who found her body in the sitting room with her hands, legs, and mouth tied. The DPO immediately mobilised officers to the scene, and the corpse was subsequently evacuated and deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.
Police authorities have arrested one suspect, identified as Lucky Matthew, while the prime suspect, Godwin Vanem, remains at large. Preliminary investigations suggest that Vanem is strongly linked to the crime, prompting the command to launch a full-scale manhunt for him.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for thorough and discreet investigation.
CP Abaniwonda has extended the command’s condolences to the family of the late Justice Okogwu and assured them that every effort is being made to ensure justice is served.
