NEMA Commences The Distribution Of Relief Materials To The Victims Of Communal Clashes And Farmers-Herders Crises In Benue

The National Emergency Management Agency NEMA North Central Zonal Office Jos, in collaboration with the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BESEMA), on Friday, September 20, 2024, delivered relief items for distribution to victims of communal clashes and farmers/herders crises in Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency of Benue State.

Delivering the items, the Director General of the NEMA Agency, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, said the relief materials were meant to provide succour to the victims. The director general, who was represented by the North Central Zonal Coordinator, Mr Eugene Nyelong, added that the Federal Government was concerned about the condition of the internally displaced persons ( IDPs) in approving the items and re-iterated the need for the people to tolerate each other and live together in peace.

Receiving the items on behalf of the victims, the representative of Governor Alia and Executive Secretary of Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BESEMA), Sir James Iorpuu, appreciated NEMA and noted that the state has devised a means to ensure that all the victims benefit from the relief materials.

Commenting on behalf of other community leaders, the Zaki of Jato Aka, Simon Bave expressed his gratitude to NEMA and the State Emergency Management Agency for ensuring that the relief materials got to the victims.

In his response, the representative of the House of Representatives member representing Kwande and Ushango Federal Constituency, Francis Ajayl, lauded the effort of Honourable Terser Ugber in bringing the relief materials down to the grassroots

The distribution, which took place in 2 designated central locations (ST Michael Parish-Aka and the palace of Ter Kwande in Kwande Local Government Area), had the following stakeholders in attendance: Principal Senior Special Assistance to the Governor on Media and Content Creation, Hon. Terna Andura, SA, to the Governor on Community Relations and Engagement, and the Senior Legislative Aid to Hon. Terser Ugbor. Others included: 2 House of Assembly members from Kwande and Ushango LGAs, the State Emergency Management Agency (BESEMA), the DSS, the Police, EFCC, community leaders, and the media.

The relief materials consist of food and non-food items.
