Nigeria Needs Clarity, Not Drama

By Amb. Chinonso Chukwuemeka

Omoyele Sowore’s recent emotional grandstanding over the court’s judgement on Nnamdi Kanu does nothing to change the facts. Nobody “betrayed justice”; no shadowy forces “rewrote” history.

A legal process reached its conclusion, one shaped, to a considerable extent, by Kanu’s own choices and conduct.

The truth is straightforward: Nnamdi Kanu cannot jump bail, ignore court orders, refuse to defend himself, leave damaging evidence uncontested, and then turn around to blame the judiciary, the government, or imaginary villains for the outcome.

Actions have consequences. The courtroom is not a theatre where excuses and sentiment can replace responsibility.

It is also rather absurd for Sowore to position himself as the guardian of “historical truth” while conveniently ignoring the pain of ordinary people across the South-East who have endured years of violence, fear, and economic disruption by individuals hiding under the banner of agitation.

Families torn apart, security personnel murdered, businesses crippled, and entire communities forced into weekly paralysis; these realities cannot be swept aside simply because they do not fit into a romantic political narrative.

The suffering of the South-East matters. Their trauma deserves to be acknowledged. Their voices count just as much as any activist’s outrage on social media.

Sowore should also remember that not everything is a conspiracy, and not every judgement is a national tragedy.

Sometimes the law simply runs its course. Sometimes the outcome is the direct result of the choices made by the accused. And no amount of poetic storytelling or emotional posturing will undo that reality.

At this moment, what Nigeria needs is clarity, not drama. We need sober reflection, respect for judicial institutions, and an honest acknowledgement of the consequences of our actions, nothing more, nothing less.
