…… Says campaign of calumny targeted at the IGP Egbetokun
The South West Youth Alliance has described the recent call by Safe The Soul Transparency and Eagle Eyes International Foundation, calling for an investigation into allegations against CP Oyakhire Ehiede, the current Head of Legal at the Nigeria Police Force, as baseless and mischievous.
In a press release on Monday, June 2, 2025, signed by the National Coordinator of the Alliance, Taiwo Adegbenga, it was stated that, based on available records, CP Ohiozoba Oyakhire Ehiede will retire from service in September 2025 due to reaching the age of 60 years.
“There is no record showing that CP Ehiede altered his date of birth from April 18, 1965, to September 18, 1965, with the intent to postpone his retirement. He will retire by September 2025, which is normal under the revised Public Service Rules (PSR).
“We state categorically that CP Ehiede never falsified his service records nor altered his date of birth to delay his retirement, as he is a police officer with a variety of ethical obligations and has been providing consistent, high-quality service to the legal department of the Nigeria police for several years.
“We see all these distractions as part of a larger agenda to discredit IGP Egbetokun and the administration of President Bola Tinubu. These campaigns are not only malicious but deliberately designed to create instability,” Adegbenga said.
Adegbenga attributed the attacks to individuals disgruntled by CP Ehiede’s reforms, particularly the professionalisation of the legal department as a centre and custodian of the Nigeria Police’s legal archive.
“The use of faceless online platforms and questionable media outlets to spread lies and cast doubt on CP Ehiede’s credibility will never stand, Adegbenga said.
“This is not just an attack on CP Ehiede; it is an attempt to undermine the Nigeria police, and we as an alliance will not let that happen, Adegbenga concluded.
