The Integrity Youth Alliance, an organisation monitoring development trends in the Nigerian Police Force for over 15 years, has refuted a false and misleading publication by the serial false, Supreme News.
Reacting to a publication titled “Apprehension In Police, As Ruling Of Retired 400 Officers Case Comes Up,” the National Coordinator of the Alliance, Kelvin Adegbenga said that there is no palpable apprehension in the police, especially at Force Headquarters (FHQ), Louis Edet House, Garki, Abuja.
“We strongly believe that the National Industrial Court judgement will be in favour of the Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission, as it is pertinent to note that “Force Entrant” is a scheme by the Nigeria Police Force where deserving officers with requisite educational records are upgraded to a higher cadre after a brief training period at the Police Academy or at any approved Police College and, as such, not a fresh appointment.
“Essentially, this implies that the service duration of such officers continues counting and does not automatically restart. Therefore, according to the Public Service Rules, the retired officers who have served in the public service and received salaries as required by law cannot insist on remaining in service beyond the legally permitted period. Consequently, the purported call for their reinstatement will be strange to the law and unrealistic.
“Information available to us indicates that the Nigeria Police Force has submitted a motion for a stay of execution, while the appeal is scheduled to be heard at the court’s convenience.”
“The Integrity Youth Alliance hereby urges members of the public to discountenance publications by Supreme News, as they are baseless, malicious, and mischievous.
“The Police Service Commission and IGP Egbetokun can never have a face-off, even if the court rules in favour of the aggrieved officers, of which we strongly believe the ruling will be in favour of the PSC and the NPF.
“We called on the about 400 retired police officers to quietly enjoy their retirement in peace as the Nigeria police, under the leadership of IGP Kayode Egbetokun, continue their commitment to entrenching respect for the rule of law both within the policing system and in the discharge of policing services to the general public.
