Osun Monarchs, Ifon, Erin-Osun And Ilobu Communities Finally Embrace Peace As NSCDC Hosts International Day Of Peace Engagement

In a historic move to end years of communal hostility, traditional rulers of Ifon-Osun, Erin-Osun, and Ilobu have pledged to embrace lasting peace, marking a turning point in the relationship among the three neighbouring communities.

According to a press release signed by the Civil Defence PRO, Osun State Command, ASCI Kehinde Adeleke, the declaration was made on Monday, September 22, 2025, during a stakeholders’ engagement organised by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, to commemorate the International Day of Peace.

The Olufon of Ifon-Osun, Oba Peter Oluwole Akinyooye, the Elerin of Erin-Osun, Oba Yussuf Kolawole Omoloye, and the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan, sealed the peace pact with a symbolic handshake and embrace. The gesture, greeted with applause, signified an end to decades of recurring clashes that have claimed lives and hindered development in the area.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented at the event by his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, commended the monarchs’ commitment to peace. He assured that his administration would continue to support initiatives that promote harmony while accelerating infrastructural development across the state.

He also lauded the State Commandant of NSCDC, Commandant Igbalawole Sotiyo, for his role in fostering reconciliation, pledging the government’s continued partnership with the Corps in sustaining peace.

Speaking at the event, the traditional rulers stressed that peace is the foundation for growth and prosperity, appealing to government at all levels to bring development projects to their communities, which had long been deprived due to past crises.

In his remarks, Commandant Sotiyo praised the monarchs for their sincerity and courage, describing their public show of unity as “a practical demonstration of peace.”

The event marked a milestone in Osun’s pursuit of communal harmony and development.
