The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ibrahim Pantami, has charged the newly inaugurated governing board members of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), and Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), to adhere to administrative laws and guidelines put in place by the Federal Government.
He gave the charge while inaugurating the Chairmen Governing Board of NITDA, NIMC, and NIPOST and their members at the Digital Economy Complex in Abuja on Tuesday.
Inaugurating the board, the Minister advised members of the governing board to understand the laws and guidelines put in place by the Federal government, especially the administrative laws, and urged each member to review and understand them.
In his words, “the day-to-day activities of the parastatals have been with the Chief Executive and its management team. They have to do that and nobody has the power to go in and do day-to-day activities for them. The Ministry supervises what they are doing because the power of supervision lies with the Ministry, while the governing board’s power is to cascade policies. Except for Federal Government policy, the Board has no authority to initiate policy.”
He also told them that they didn’t have the power to award the contract and not interfering with the funds of the agencies.
Forty-four members were inaugurated, with NITDA having 17 members, NIMC 19, and NIPOST with 8.
