Police Arrest A Homicide Suspect In Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested one John Gambo for hacking one Ibrahim Matthew, a part-time ND2 Computer Science student of the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, to death.

According to a press release on Friday, 7th February 2025, signed by the Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nnasel, on 6th of February 2025, at about 0200hrs, a report was lodged at Nasarawa Division by one Mercy Bassey, a female resident at the address behind ECWA Peace College, Shagari Road, Nasarawa, regarding a violent altercation between two individuals. The incident occurred between one of her tenants and his friend at their lodge.

Upon receiving the report, the commissioner of police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, immediately sent a team of detectives who promptly responded to the scene. The detectives found one Ibrahim Matthew, a part-time ND2 Computer Science student of the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa (FPN), lying in a pool of his own blood. Ibrahim had suffered fatal injuries. He was immediately rushed to General Hospital Nasarawa, where he was confirmed dead. The body was subsequently deposited in the mortuary for postmortem examination.

Following a swift investigation, the suspect, one John Gambo, a male ND2 student in the Banking and Finance Department of the same institution, was apprehended. The suspect confessed to violently attacking/hacking the deceased with both an axe and a knife, leading to Ibrahim Matthew’s tragic death. Both the axe and the knife were recovered from the suspect.

The Commissioner of Police has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for comprehensive investigation and subsequent prosecution.
