Police Ban Protests, Rallies In Kwara State

Police have placed a ban on all forms of procession, rallies, or demonstrations in Kwara State.

The State Police Command said the decision was taken after information at its disposal revealed that hoodlums have perfected plans to hijack any rally or procession and use the process to cause chaos and jeopardize the current fragile peace in Kwara State.

In a statement by a spokesperson for the police in Kwara State, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, the police said rallies, protests, and demonstrations of any kind could be hijacked, putting the lives and property of the people and government at risk, which would not be acceptable.

The command also advises political party leaders to warn their supporters to desist from inciting and unguided statements on social, print, and electronic media capable of inflaming crises and heating the polity.

It further advised the public to go about their normal businesses, as security agencies were poised to guarantee the safety of lives and property as aggressive patrols of the state and raids on criminal hideouts would continue, and the command would do everything legally possible to ensure the safety and security of the good people of Kwara State.
