…..Harp on all-inclusiveness in policing

The Nigeria Police Force, alongside the management of the CLEEN Foundation on the 28th of March, held a conference, revitalizing the Police Executive Forum at the Bolton White Hotel, Abuja.

Succeeding the opening remarks by the IGP and the Chairman PSC, Prof. Etannibi Alemika of CLEEN Foundation stated the pertinent need for a modern form of policing which would include efforts from the Nigeria Police as well as every society member.

In a statement on Friday, 29th March 2024 signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun ably represented by DIG Bala Ciroma in his speech stated that the NPF must adapt to the rapidly evolving society to boost Police efficiency and help the Nigeria Police carry out its duties, encouraging proactive measures rather than preventive measures.

The statement read “The IGP also advised a hybrid system of police which would include the implementation of technology in our traditional policing system and would result in the high policing standards, stating that the POCACOV is an example of this innovative approach which represents a coordinative preventive measure aimed at educating our youths and breaking the cycle of violence.

“Acknowledging the limitations faced and the challenges, the IGP assured that these challenges would be overcome by collaborative efforts of the NPF and other security agencies, Afejobi said.

Addressing the forum, the Chairman Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Hon. Makki Yalleman advised on fostering positive relationships not just between agencies but with community members also. The Chairman stated that the purpose of the POLICING EXECUTIVE FORUM is to further boost the capacity and proficiency of the NPF, ensuring that the NPF evolves to a modern policing practice in tandem with the security challenges in Nigeria.

The Attorney General of the Federation, Mr Lateef Fagbemi ably represented by Mrs Chinwe Obasi also highlighted the pertinent need for a synergy between the Ministry of Justice and the NPF, which would yield easy prosecution and finalization of criminal cases.
