Police Commissioner Confirms Rescue Of 22 Hostages In FCT

….Assures the residents of the FCT of bringing professionalism to bear in the discharge of his policing mandate.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna G. Garba has confirmed the rescue of 22 hostages kidnapped in the Territory.

The CP made the confirmation during his maiden address with the media on Friday at the FCT Police Command Headquarters, Abuja.

He said that Federal Capital Territory Police Operatives on Wednesday, 3rd May 2023 rescued Twenty-Two hostages kidnapped in an incident reported on Tuesday, April 2023.

“The Federal Capital Territory Police Command launched a special rescue operation in and around Kogi, Nasarawa States, and the FCT Borders.

“On 03/05/2023, the operation yielded positive results as all victims were rescued unhurt around Sarudauna Forest, Nasarawa State, via Gegu Village bordering the FCT by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

“The victims were taken to Abaji General Hospital, where ten victims with mild symptoms of illness were treated and discharged, while the remaining four are still on admission. Efforts are being intensified to trail/arrest the fleeing suspects.

“Similarly, on 03/05/2023 at 1730hrs, a team of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit on clearance operation at Sardauna Forest bordering Chikara Village of Kogi State, Nasarawa, and FCT rescued eight hostages, namely: Buba Galadima, Sarki Galadima, Audu Galadima, Musa Buba, Mohammad Isa, Hassan Audu, Aminu Ahmadu, and Abubakar Mallam, kidnapped from Lapai and Tungan Mallam Villages of Niger State since 13/04/2023.

“All rescued victims were handed over to Ardo Galadima of Lapai LGA, Niger State, for urgent medical attention.

The CP said that in another development, on Wednesday, 3rd May 2023, one Yusuf Ayuba of Madala Village Karshi reported at Karshi Division that on Tuesday, 2nd May 2023 that one Monday John of the same address had a misunderstanding with his wife, Mrs. Mercy Monday, which resulted in a physical fight.

In the process, their son, Emmanuel John,16yrs old, took sides with his mother and hit his father with a pestle on his head. He sustained a serious head injury and was taken to a local patent medicine store by his relatives. His condition deteriorated, and he was later confirmed dead.

The suspect was arrested and placed in custody for further investigation.

Meanwhile, CP Haruna G. Garba has appealed to the FCT residents to assist the Police either by providing credible information that will defeat crime or by direct participation in activity that will mitigate crime and criminality.

“It is only by working together as a team that the security challenges in the FCT can be conquered, CP Haruna G. Garba said.

He assured the residents of the FCT that he will bring professionalism to bear in the discharge of his policing mandate.

“The Fundamental Human Rights of the people will be respected and protected; community partnership, visibility policing, and intelligence-led approach which are the cardinal principles of Police Force will be vigorously pursued, CP Haruna G. Garba concluded
