Security operatives have launched a major rescue operation following the abduction of students from St. Mary’s Private (Catholic) Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun. armed bandits invaded the school’s hostel at about 2:00 a.m. on November 21, 2025, and kidnapped an unconfirmed number of students.
The Command said police tactical units, alongside military components and other security agencies, have been deployed to the area and are currently combing the surrounding forests in a coordinated effort to rescue the victims.

Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safe and unharmed rescue of all abducted students. He urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as operations intensify.
The CP also disclosed that the incident will be thoroughly investigated, adding that appropriate actions will be taken against the school management for continuing academic activities despite a state government directive ordering the closure of schools in the area due to security concerns.
