Police Parade Ten Suspects Over Robbery, Police Operative Murder In Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected criminals for various crimes ranging from armed robbery to highway armed robbery and murder.

The suspects were paraded at the Oyo State Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, the Capital City of Oyo State on Friday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Adewale Osifeso.

Addressing journalists at the Command Headquarters, SP. Osifeso noted that the suspects had confessed to the crimes during a thorough in­vestigation carried out by in­telligent officers and men of the command.

While briefing journalists on how suspected armed robbers were paraded for removing cars from the park, SP. Osifeso said, “On 6th May 2023 at about 0500hrs, three members of a criminal syndicate who specialize in removing exotic cars from where they are parked by unsuspecting members of the public went Arola Street, Apete area and removed a Toyota Corolla Car (Wine Color) with Registration Numbers LMD 237 AA from where it was parked by its owner.

Osifeso gave the names of the suspects as Akodu Sunday, Age 53 Years; Daramola Adegboyega, Age 50 Years and Kolawole Babatunde, Age 46 Years

He further said that as soon as the hoodlums were moving the car away from the street, the owner sighted them and quickly engaged a Commercial Driver who drove a Nissan Micra Car to give them a hot chase and in the process, the stolen Toyota Corolla Car has intercepted at AJIBODE area Ibadan and the kingpin of the criminal gang who later identified himself as AKODU SUNDAY as apprehended and handed over to the police at APETE Division.

“Upon interview at the Monitoring Unit, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime and series of similar criminal activities he had masterminded with his fleeing syndicate members.

A further discreet investigation later led to the arrest of the two fleeing syndicate members; Daramola Adegboyega and Kolawole Babatunde in their respective hideouts and they equally confessed to having participated in the criminal activity.

Exhibits recovered from the suspect are Thirteen master keys

Speaking on the case of armed robbery and recovery of four Bajaj motorcycles, SP. Osifeso said, “On 9th May 2023 at about 0300hrs, some members of a suspected armed robbery syndicate who have been terrorizing travelers on highways at different locations in Oyo State laid ambush at a desolate spot at Ijawaya area along Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway and in the process, intercepted one DAF Truck loaded with Seven New Bajaj Motorcycles which were being conveyed by their owners from the Northern Part of the Country to Ibadan in Oyo State.

“The hoodlums who were armed with guns, cutlasses, and some other dangerous weapons attacked the occupants of the DAF Truck, dispossessed them their cell phones, and various sums of money, and equally carted away six out of the seven Bajaj Motorcycles.

“The victims later left the scene of the crime with intent to report the incident at the nearest police station but fortunately for them, on getting to Ojoo area, Ibadan, the victims sighted two of the armed robbers on one of the robbed motorcycles.
“Hence, they quickly raised an alarm and in the process, two suspects who later identified themselves as IBRAHIM ABDULAHI ‘M’ and MUHAMMED SHEHU were apprehended, and the Bajaj Motorcycle was recovered from them.

SP. Osifeso said the two suspects and their exhibits were handed over to the Police at Ojoo Division, Ibadan, and from there they were immediately transferred to the Command Monitoring Unit for further investigation.

“At the Monitoring Unit, the suspects confessed to the crime and a series of other armed robbery operations they had masterminded along the Ibadan/Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway.

“The suspects gave useful information which later led to the arrest of one other member of their armed robbery syndicate; Umaru Monde ‘M’ and three of the Motorcycles carted away from the victims were recovered.

The suspects are: Ibrahim Abdulahi, Aged 19 Years, Muhammed Shehu, Aged 18 Years, and Umaru Monde, aged 38 Years the exhibits recovered from them are four Bajaj motorcycles

In another development, SP. Osifeso said that the efforts at putting an end to the emerging reports of robbery attacks and harassment by criminal elements around Ori-Agogo, Odo-Ona Kekere axis, and environs of Oluyole LGA received a Major Boost as Operatives of the Anti-Robbery Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department attached to the Oyo State Police Command through painstaking intelligence-led investigations have apprehended suspects in connection with these heinous crimes.

“Recall that, On 29/04/ 2023 at about 0100hrs, a group of Suspected Armed Robbers, numbering five (5) invaded the Ori-Agogo area of Odo-Ona Kekere in Ibadan and robbed several residents of their belongings. During the robbery operation, ASP Ogunleye Olufemi Daniel, serving at the State CID Iyaganku and who was a resident in the community was killed by the assailants having robbed him and other members of his family, SP. Osifeso said.

“Thus, the case was transferred from Idi-Ayunre Police Divisional Headquarters to the SCID Iyaganku for further investigation.
Consequently, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Anti-Robbery section immediately swung into action and tracked the suspects using a mobile phone found at the scene of the crime.

“Three (3) suspects including their spiritual healer Gabriel Adeniyi ‘m’ 80yrs, Oyetumbi Ademola ‘m’ 25 yrs, Michael Adeniyi ‘m’ 26 yrs were arrested, while their gang leader named Fatai Fasasi ‘m’ 30 yrs, popularly known as Ogun who allegedly shot and killed, the deceased Officer, was neutralized at an encounter with Police operatives during their trail.

“This far, two (2) Samsung phones belonging to their victims alongside; a 1999 Hyundai Elantra vehicle (Their getaway car) and a cut-to-size locally made barrel used by the assailants have been recovered.

“In the same vein, during the process of voluntarily confessing to the crimes committed, they further revealed one Kafilat Tiamiyu ‘f’ a.k.a Iya Alaye as a criminal receiver who receives Jewelry (golds) proceeds from them, based on this; the said Kafilat Tiamiyu was tracked and arrested at Oranyan area of Ibadan.

He gave the names of the suspects: Oyetumbi Ademola, Aged 25yrs; Michael Adeniyi, Aged 26yrs; Gabriel Adeniyi, Aged 80yrs; Kafilat Tiamiyu, Aged 50yrs

Exhibits recovered from them include One Cut To Size Locally Made Single Barrel Gun; Two Samsung Phones; One Itel Phone; 1 Hyundai Elantra 1999 Model Car Grey Color; Two Wrist Watches Belonging To The Deceased Police Officer; Two Wedding Bands; One Amulet And Two Herbal Concoction.
