The Rivers State Police Command has arrested an officer attached to the Police Mobile Force, 43 Squadron, Gombe State, in connection with the killing of Mr. Peterside.
According to a press release signed by the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed that the police personnel attached to 43 PMF Gombe was on special duty in Rivers State.
She said that Mr. Peterside was at the scene with his wife and three children when the incident happened.
Peterside was shot and killed by the officer at a popular bar in Elekahia, Port Harcourt, in the local government area of the state.
SP Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed that the police officer fired his rifle into the air in response to an alarm raised by some individuals regarding a robbery incident in the area. Unfortunately, a stray bullet from the officer’s rifle struck and fatally injured Mr. Peterside, who was immediately rushed to Savealife Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The Command PRO assured the public that the investigation into the incident is currently underway and will be made public.
