The Centre for Public Accountability (CPA) has strongly condemned the Joint Union Congress of the Police Service Commission (PSC) for their stance on the recent allegations of recruitment irregularities within the Police Force. In a statement issued today in Lagos and signed by its Executive Director, Olufemi Lawson, CPA accused the Union of supporting fraudulent practices that marred the last police recruitment exercise, as exposed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun.
The CPA’s statement commended IGP Egbetokun for his role in uncovering the alleged irregularities during the recruitment process and echoed his call for the total cancellation of the exercise. The CPA emphasized the importance of upholding transparency and integrity in such critical processes within the Police Service.
Furthermore, the CPA warned against any attempts to smear the reputation of IGP Egbetokun, noting that such actions could undermine the positive reforms currently underway in the Police Force. The statement urged stakeholders to support the efforts of the IGP in bringing accountability and fairness to the forefront of policing in the country.
The CPA concluded by urging the authorities to investigate the allegations thoroughly and ensure that those responsible for any wrongdoing are held accountable, in order to restore public trust and confidence in the Police Service Commission’s recruitment procedures.
