Police To Activate Short Code 933 Soon – FPRO

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba Usman is discussing with the NCC and putting measures in place to have and activate the Police short code, 933, which will soon be rolled out to ease communication and sharing of information.

According to a tweet on his certified Twitter handle on Thursday, 28th July 2022, the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said, “We are sure this drive will boost our operations and service delivery. So we admonish Nigerians to be patient and believe in our system, as the system still works.

The tweet further said, “We will surely overcome this present condition and stand tall to celebrate in Nigeria. Nigeria is our common heritage that must be guided and protected. Thanks”.

Recall that the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba during a meeting with strategic police managers and the official launch of the Police Specialised Services Automation Project (POSSAP) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja said the approval and allocation of a national police shortcode by the National Communications Commission (NCC) was a landmark achievement.

He said, “To enhance the attainment of our internal security mandate, I am also delighted to confirm that we have secured the approval of the National Communications Commission (NCC) for the allocation of a national Police Short Code for free emergency calls and information sharing between the police and the citizens.

“The acquisition of the Short Code which is ‘933’ is a landmark initiative by the Force leadership to bridge the age-long emergency communication gap between the Police and members of the public. The code will soon be formally launched.”
