The Police Officers’ Wives Association has addressed the malicious, defamatory claims regarding POWA dues published by Sahara Reporters.
Supporting police officers’ families through various outreach programs, initiatives, and empowerment is the mission of the Police Officers’ Wives Association.
The POWA dues are an age-long levy charge familiar to all police officers as a known tradition in all state commands, aimed at accumulating necessary funds for vital campaigns and outreach activities, which focus on providing relief materials, palliatives, and empowerment programs for the wives and children of all police officers, including the families of officers slain in the line of duty.
Unfortunately, claims credited to the online blog, Sahara Reporters, who deliberately and mischievously blocked a signal originating from a state command to mislead the public into believing the directives were from the POWA President, have misrepresented the nature of these dues, labelling them as extortion and suggesting that the funds are unjustly enriching the IGP’s wife.
Such statements are not only false but also reflect a deliberate and calculated attack on the person of the Inspector-General of Police and, by extension, his immediate family, reflecting a broader effort by the discredited blogger to undermine initiatives that benefit police families.
Members of the public are urged to be cautious of misleading information disseminated by certain journalists and individuals, lacking credible sources. The claims made by these entities are part of a regrettable campaign of calumny that seeks to tarnish the reputation of a well-structured organisation like the Nigeria Police Force and other government agencies in pursuit of personal or political agendas.
It is crucial to note that the blog responsible for these sensational headlines has a history of publishing unfounded claims, with an uncountable number of posts against the Nigeria Police Force and other public appointment holders, lacking tangible stories but mere clickbait headlines, reflecting a disregard for ethical journalism.
Members of the public are hereby urged to disregard these claims and be wary of the antics of Sahara Reporters to discredit the Nigeria Police Force for its own political agenda.
