The Central Organizing Committee (COC) of the Governor Douye Diri Pre-season Football Tournament has lauded the state governor, Senator Douye Diri, for his unwavering love and passion for sports development and football in particular.
A statement of appreciation signed by the Chairman of the organising committee, Ono Akpe said the success of recent football events in the state is a testament to Bayelsa’s growing reputation as a hub for sports development and the new destination for talent discovery.
He equally expressed appreciation to his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, for his commitment to the success of the event, as well as to the Sports Development Commissioner, Hon. Daniel Igali, for his tireless efforts in making the tournament a success.
Also appreciated was the works and infrastructure commissioner, Esv Moses Teibowei, alongside all the participating teams at the just concluded Pre-season football tournament, particularly Bayelsa United for emerging champions.
The statement reads, “The Central Organizing Committee of the Governor Douye Diri Pre-season football tournament wishes to express its gratitude to the Governor of the state, Senator Douye Diri for his love and passion for Sports development.”
“Successive events such as the Prosperity Cup and the Pre-season tournament have attracted lots of goodwill to Bayelsa State, and your commitment towards making them annually will surely catapult the state to greater heights following subsequent achievements”.
“We equally appreciate your ever supportive and loyal Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Sports Development Commissioner Hon Daniel Igali, his Works counterpart, Esv. Moses Teibowei,
and other stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the tourney.”
“We equally congratulate and thank Bayelsa United, for making us proud by coming out tops in the keenly contested competition and the exemplary display of the spirit of sportsmanship through out the tournament, and also commend the participating teams for giving their best and the fans something to cheer for as well as discipline and strict adherence to the rules of the game at all times.”
“To the peaceful and orderly fans, the referees and match officials, for their professionalism and fair application of the laws of the game, the media, as well as all football stakeholders, we say thank you for your various contributions to the success of the tournament”.
The statement however urge stakeholders to continue to throw their weight behind the state government led by the Governor, Douye Diri, so that his vision for the state, particularly on the area of sports development will be achieved.
