The Department of State Services (DSS), in collaboration with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), has recorded a major breakthrough in Nigeria’s quest for technological self-reliance within the security sector.
Speaking in Abuja, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, announced that the Agency, in partnership with the DSS and with the full backing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has developed advanced security equipment aimed at strengthening intelligence gathering and enhancing national security operations.
Halilu revealed that a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility jointly established by NASENI and the DSS in Abuja is now fully equipped with cutting-edge technology designed to revolutionize the nation’s security architecture.
According to a press release signed by the Director of Information, NASENI, Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, he commended the Director-General of the DSS, Mr. Oluwatosin Ajayi, for his commitment to President Tinubu’s vision of promoting self-reliance among Nigeria’s security agencies and reducing dependence on foreign imports of security hardware.
“Both agencies have invested in training and developing technical expertise to locally produce these sophisticated security tools, although the specific details remain classified for national security reasons,” Halilu said.
According to him, President Tinubu strongly believes that Nigeria possesses the capacity to manufacture its own security equipment. The partnership, he noted, leverages NASENI’s engineering and scientific expertise to advance innovation tailored to the nation’s security needs.
Halilu added that the success of this collaboration will soon position Nigeria as a regional leader in security technology production, fostering economic growth and contributing to regional stability.
“This initiative reflects President Tinubu’s broader agenda of promoting self-reliance and technological advancement in national security. It represents a major milestone in Nigeria’s pursuit of sustainable, home-grown security solutions,” the NASENI boss stated.
