Prosperity Cup Technical Committee Begins Pitch Inspection Across Bayelsa

The technical committee of Nigeria’s biggest football tournament, the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament, christened the Prosperity Cup, has embarked on pitch inspection tour ahead of commencement of the competition next month.

The committee led by the Technical Director, Mr. Diseye Nwankwe, visited Otuasega, Imiringi and the Yenizue-gene/Biogbolo Secondary School pitches to ascertain the level of readiness for the various centers.

Over twenty centers have been selected by the Central Organizing Committee (COC) of the tournament to host the season seven of the spectacle which was last won by Ogboinbiri FC of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

Speaking at the Otuasega center, Head coach of Movers FC of Otuasega, Sunday Oliemen, said the people of Otuasega community are elated for the community to be picked among the centers that would host the prosperity cup, assuring the organizers of an hospitable atmosphere during and after the competition.

A local of Imiringi community, Bennet Akalusio, appreciated the organizers of the tournament for choosing Imiringi as one of the centers in Ogbia LGA, stating that he is happy that some of the tournament’s discoveries are currently plying their trade with clubs within and outside the country.

Assessing the level of readiness, Technical Director, Mr. Diseye Nwankwe, noted that the three visited pitches are ready to host the tournament, maintaining that the essence of the tour was to ensure that the pitches are in good condition before the commencement of the competition.

According to him, the technical committee is pleased with the green nature of the pitches and the pavilion, noting that the committee would report to the Central Organizing Committee to certify 24 out of the 26 centers picked.

He explained that Twon Brass,
Sangana or Ogbokiri/Akassa in Brass Local Government Area, Nembe City, Nembe LGA, Ogbia LGA Kolo Field, Imiringi Township Stadium, Otuasega Mini Stadium and Otuokpoti Centre with two centers are already certified in Ogbia LGA.

He further explained that Yenagoa L.G.A would have ten centers which include; Ogu, Swali, Bishop Dimeari Grammar School, B.D.G.S, Kpansia, Opolo, Tombia, Ogboloma, Okordia/Zarama, Koroama and Biogbolo/Yenizue-gene centers.

Mr. Nwankwe noted that the Command Secondary School and the Ebedebiri Town field will have the luxury of hosting teams from Sagbama LGA. Teams in Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA battle others at the Kaiama and Ekpuwari -Opokuma center.

He noted that the Niger Delta University Amassoma stadium and Oporoma center will accommodate teams from Southern Ijaw L.G.A as Ekeremor Town field, Egbema-Angalabiri centre and Aleibiri town will host teams from Ekeremor LGA.

The Technical Committee Director, added that local government areas would host both the preliminary round and the prestigious LGA finals, stressing that the venues are expected to be renovated in order to guarantee a colourful tournament and a unique LGA finals.
