Tournament discovery Everton Football Academy of Ikolo on Monday in a matchday 16 encounter produced a superb performance to record a famous 4-1 win over Overcoming Lamb Assembly FC at the Bishop Dimieari Grammar School Centre in the Bayelsa State Governor’s Football Tournament christened the Prosperity Cup.

The Ikolo-based side had already taken the scalps of Swali FC, Boki Joy FC in the tournament but the win over Overcoming Lamb Assembly is of much greater significance as the Evertonians have now qualified for the Round of 32 and gone beyond the two-goal mark they registered in their previous matches.

Godgift Otubo put Everton FC ahead 15 minutes into the game from close range with the young lads controlling proceedings from the blast of the whistle. Noble Agah added another 24 minutes into play for the Ikolo side.

When it seemed the young and determined Everton team were going to go into the halftime break with a 2-0 victory Michael Ambas compounded the woes of the church boys with a beauty of a shot from 30 yards to make it 3-0 with a minute to spare before half-time.

On resumption Overcoming Lamb Assembly reduced the deficit with a gifted goal from the Evertonian goalkeeper who committed an unusual error. Overcoming Lamb will at least go home with the consolation that they are the first team to break the resolute defense of Everton FC young lads.

This consolation goal drew the ire of the young lads as they continued to mount pressure on Overcoming Lamb Assembly to register more goals before it paid off in the 77th minute. Credit must be given to the Overcoming Lamb FC side for keeping the shooting legs of the young lads out of their goal area for the better part of the second half and preventing a lot more goals from being put in the back of their net.

Earlier at the BDGS Centre, Ogbo United came from behind to beat Famgbe FC 2-1 and progress to the round of 32. Goals from Christopher Peter in the 26th minute and Didieikemie Erefagha gave Ogbo United the deserved victory.

In a lone goal scoreline, Dream Academy overcame Kpansia III FC at the Tombia Centre, as Ikolo FC also progressed to the round of 32 with another 1-0 win over Eleven Planet FC. Biseni United at the Okordia Centre beat the Nigeria Medical Association football team one nil in a pulsating encounter with the NMA team looking for an equalizer and go into penalties having won their previous two matches via penalty shootout.

Elsewhere, at the Opolo Centre Rose of Sharon FC brought Ohaneze FC’s participation in Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football tournament to an end with a one nil victory. Igbogene FC at the Ogboloma Centre also secured a place in the round of 32 having humbled Polaku FC 2-0.

At the beautiful Swali/Ox-Lake Centre the enjoyment boys Shegbelegbe FC came from a goal down to beat Azikoro Youth Movement 2-1 while Ayamalem FC dispatched Divine Grace FC 3-0.

Earlier at the Ogbia centres, Mover FC of Otuasega, Apret FC of Imiringi and Okodi FC qualified for the round of 32. Okodi FC stopped last year’s semi-finalist Anyama FC from progressing to the next phase of the competition at the Otuokpoti Centre.

All 32 teams look good enough to lift the prized trophy making the round of 32 a must-watch. No doubt the sixteen matches in this round of 32 promise to produce fireworks. Meanwhile, the teams have three days to rest and re-strategize to book a place in the round of 16 to keep their hopes alive of lifting the golden trophy.
