Renewed Hope Initiative, NITDA Conclude ICT Empowerment Training For Women

The Renewed Hope Initiative, in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has concluded the 2025 edition of its Women ICT Training Empowerment Programme. The closing ceremony was held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and was presided over by the First Lady and National Chairman of the Initiative, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON.

In her remarks, the First Lady congratulated the graduating participants and encouraged them to embrace growth, innovation, and perseverance as they build careers in the digital space. She announced plans to extend similar ICT training programmes to wives of executives, adding that the initiative aims to ensure that women across all geopolitical zones are digitally empowered. Senator Tinubu also commended NITDA for its continued efforts in expanding opportunities for women nationwide.

Delivering his welcome address, the Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, CCIE, highlighted the alignment of the programme with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in economic diversification, human capital development, and digital inclusion. He reaffirmed NITDA’s commitment to building a digitally literate nation, noting the implementation of the National Digital Literacy Framework, which targets 95% digital literacy by 2030 and 70% by 2027.

The DG disclosed that participants underwent three weeks of intensive training covering device handling, software use, content creation, digital marketing, online safety, and basic problem-solving. He noted consistent growth in the programme, with 35 women trained in 2023, 252 in 2024, and 320 in 2025—bringing the total number of beneficiaries to over 600. He added that NITDA has trained more than 1,000,143 Nigerians under the current administration, including 32,000 civil servants. Inuwa urged the women to apply their knowledge in their communities and mentor at least two to three others.

The ceremony ended with expressions of gratitude from participants, who said the programme had equipped them with the skills needed to thrive in Nigeria’s expanding digital economy.
