Residents Of Maitama Lament Pharmacy Robberies

The rate of pharmacy robberies is at an all-time high in the FCT, particularly along the Maitama axis.

According to the residents Swift Reporters spoke with, many are hesitant to go to the pharmacy beyond 4 p.m. 

Recall that CCTV footage showing a member of a notorious armed robbery gang raiding another pharmacy (Cleva Pharmacy) in the Gwarimpa area of Abuja has been shared online.

On Friday, 30th September 2022, a video of CCTV footage was shared online showing some robbers numbering about seven raiding a pharmacy opposite the Yoruba mosque in Abuja.

An investigation by Swift Reporters shows that a medical Doctor and his girlfriend went to Pharmagate Pharmacy and Supermarket, Gana Street, Maitama to buy drugs while the girlfriend was in the pharmacy, the man was by the vehicle waiting when about six armed men highlighted from a Mazda vehicle forced him into his Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep with a Diplomatic Plate number, Black 2012 model and zoomed off to the unknown destination.

Our reporters gathered that a good Samaritan that came to his aid was shot in his head and was immediately rushed to Maitama District Hospital where he was confirmed dead by a Medical Doctor on duty.

The victim was later dropped off and abandoned along Kubwa Expressway and the vehicle was taken away with two phones in the car.

When our reporter contacted the FCT Police Command’s spokeswoman, DSP Josephine Adeh, about the ongoing pharmacy robberies in city centers, she stated: “We are investigating. But that the police have not been doing anything to secure pharmacies in the area is not true. The CP has been working round the clock to ensure that the FCT is safe and secured for everyone to go about their business”.
