Erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze has condemned plots by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and his group to use his influence in the Tinubu government to frustrate the planned Rivers local government election scheduled to hold this Saturday, October 5, 2024.
In a statement made available to the media, Eze said Wike and his band of bootlickers had lined up a litany of schemes, including using the Police and other security agencies to barricade the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) Office in Aba Road, Port Harcourt, to stop the election from holding as planned.
Announcing that their schemes failed like a pack of cards, Eze said the Police disappointed Wike and his group of political merchants by opting to work with RSIEC for hitch-free council polls on Sunday, in line with the verdict of a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt.
Recall that Justice I. P. C. Igwe had, in his judgement in Suit No: PHC/2696/CS/2024, filed by Action Peoples Party (APP) as Plaintiff/Applicant against Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Rivers State Government, and Governor of Rivers State as 1st to 3rd Respondents, ordered that RSIEC should proceed with the LGA election as planned.
The ruling dealt a big blow to the FCT Minister’s efforts to scuttle the process. Wike had planned to use the controversy of the LGA poll to show President Tinubu that he controls Rivers State. Still, events seem to have proved him wrong, as Gov. Fubara appears to be tightening his grip on the oil-rich state since he fell out with his predecessor.
Commending INEC for providing RSIEC with the 2023 voter register and other materials needed for the election, Chief Eze urged security agencies to be professional in their conduct and ensure adequate security during and after the elections.
Eze describes the Actions of WIKE and the factional PDP leadership in Rivers State not to participate in the election as a sign of cowardice and fear of defeat, proving the irrelevance of Wike in the politics of Rivers State where his rigging machine has been grounded.
Commends the APC led by Chief Emeka BEKE for participating in the election proving to the entire world that Tony Okocha is nothing but an Imposter.
He called on Rivers people to unite and recover the political structure and governance of their State from the hand of a draconian, stone-age slave master whose eight-year reign left a legacy of humongous multi-sectorial retrogression.
Eze wished Rivers people a hitch-free election and urged voters to conduct themselves peacefully and abide by poll guidelines and other lawful directives from election officials. He thanked RSIEC for providing a level playing field for all participating political parties, stressing that such a positive attitude promotes democracy.
