Rotary Club, CBD Abuja Honours Water And Sanitation Permanent Secretary

The Rotary Club, Central Business District (CBD), Abuja, led by its president, Rotarian Kate Adamu, has honoured the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Richard Pheelangwah, in recognition of his exceptional leadership and dedication to public service during a courtesy visit to his office today in Abuja.

According to a press release on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, signed by the Director of Information & Public Relations, Mrs Funmi Imuetiyan, receiving the award, the Permanent Secretary expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Rotary Club delegation. He commended the club’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian services and community development.

Pheelangwah lauded Rotary’s Community Development Initiatives, which have positively impacted millions of lives, particularly in rural communities. He therefore pledged his continued support in advancing the club’s mission.

“I deeply appreciate this honour and recognition. Rotary International has shown consistent dedication to humanitarian causes, and I am encouraged to do even more in supporting your initiatives,” Pheelangwah declared.

In her address, the President of the Rotary Club, CBD Abuja, Rotarian Kate Adamu, reiterated Rotary’s emphasis on vocational services and ethical leadership. She noted that the recognition was not merely ceremonial but an affirmation of Rotary’s core values, as outlined in the Four-Way Test of the Club.

“We honour individuals who exemplify integrity, excellence, and service in their various professions. Your name came up at our board meeting and was unanimously approved for this award. Though the official ceremony was slated for last year, we believe it is never too late to recognise a deserving individual of your calibre,” she stated.

She also noted that the Rotary year ends on June 30, making the presentation a timely gesture ahead of the conclusion of her presidential tenure on July 1.

Also speaking at the event, Rotarian Evelyn Onyilo, a former Assistant Governor of the Rotary Club, highlighted the Club’s numerous achievements and reaffirmed its commitment to transforming lives, particularly in underserved communities. She emphasised the Club’s openness to welcoming new members, including the Permanent Secretary and others who share Rotary’s ideals.

The highlight of the event was the formal presentation of the Award of Excellence, Leadership and Service, along with the Rotary Banner, to the Permanent Secretary in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public service and his unwavering support for community development initiatives.
